Prelims — 2 papers · June
  • GS Paper I (200 marks, 100 q) — History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Environment, Science & Tech, Current Affairs.
  • CSAT Paper II (200 marks, 80 q) — comprehension, reasoning, basic numeracy. Qualifying at 33%.
  • Cut-off GS-I: typically 87-100 marks. CSAT: 66/200.
Mains — 9 descriptive papers · Sept
  • Essay · GS-I (History+Geo+Society) · GS-II (Polity+Governance+IR) · GS-III (Economy+Env+S&T+Security) · GS-IV (Ethics).
  • Optional subject (2 papers) — pick one from 48 options.
  • Indian Language & English — qualifying only.
  • Total: 1750 marks counted + 600 qualifying.
Interview — 275 marks · Jan-Apr

Personality test by a UPSC board. 25-30 minutes. Tests temperament, judgement, awareness — not knowledge. Final rank = Mains (1750) + Interview (275) = 2025 marks.
