Forces: 17 Infantry Division (Maj Gen K.P. Candeth) + 50 Parachute Brigade + Indian Navy (INS Mysore, INS Trishul, INS Beas + frigates) + IAF squadrons. Field commander: Lt Gen J.N. Chaudhuri. Total ~30,000 troops.

Portuguese forces in Goa: ~3,300 + 800 in Daman + 350 in Diu. Governor: Manuel Antonio Vassalo e Silva.

  • 1967 Goa Opinion Poll — first such poll in India: voted to retain Goa as UT, NOT merge with Maharashtra (Marathi advocates pushed merger).
  • 30 May 1987: Goa became 25th state of India (Konkani Rajbhasha); Daman + Diu remained UT.
  • 26 Jan 2020: Daman + Diu + Dadra + Nagar Haveli merged into single UT.
