9 March 2022 accidental misfire
On 9 March 2022, a BrahMos was accidentally fired from Sirsa Air Force Station (Haryana) into Pakistan’s Mian Channu in Khanewal district, Punjab. Travelled 124 km in 3 minutes 44 seconds at Mach 3. No warhead onboard. Pakistan complained. India ordered Court of Inquiry; 3 IAF officers dismissed in August 2022. Single biggest disclosure: confirmed BrahMos’s 124-km range + supersonic flight time + ability to penetrate Pakistan’s air defences undetected (only spotted at impact).
